Kendo requires a lot a mental and physical discipline.
A typical session starts with Reigi, which is the formal etiquette of Japanese martial arts.
Then we perform warm up and stretching exercises, which is essential before starting any type exercise.
The main part of the lesson starts with Suburi, a repeated cutting exercise which is the foundation of all good Kendo, as it programs your body to move in the right way.
Then, Sensei will instruct us in a certain aspect of Kendo, to help us understand something new. If Kata is to be done then it will normally be done at this point.
The Lesson culminates with Jigeiko which means “free practice” where we get a chance to put what we have learnt into practice.
The night ends with Reigi and a chance to discuss your practice with Sensei.
